Our History
Hope Church was founded in 2002 as joint church start of two Christian denominations, the United Church of Christ and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The founding notion of Hope Church was that of a welcoming, diverse community of people, who could learn and grow together in faith, love, and joy.
Our founding pastor was Rev. Elizabeth Myer-Boulton, who served us from 2002 to 2008. Rev. Matthew Myer-Boulton was our first music minister and Associate Pastor. We are currently under interim leadership and seeking our second permanent pastor.
Hope Church has grown significantly since its founding. Attendance has risen from a handful of people to well over a hundred on a typical Sunday. As the church has developed it has moved its worship space twice, beginning at the School of Modern Languages in Roslindale, moving in 2004 to Central Congregational Church in Jamaica Plain, and finally in 2007 moving to our present worship space in the building of Roslindale Congregational Church.
In just six years, Hope Church has grown from a small group of believers into a much larger, vibrant, active church community -- a beacon of hope and light that reaches out to the world with "Open Minds, Open Hands, and Open Hearts."
