Small Groups

At Hope Church, we believe the point of Christian life is not just going to church, but "being church" in our everyday lives, and so we are working hard to develop a network of vibrant, engaging small groups. The idea of small groups is that they can gather just about anywhere, and do just about anything: study the bible, create art, watch movies, eat together, explore spiritual practices, write poetry, take hikes, play music, etc. The content and venue may vary, but the purpose is the same: to gather together to share life, tell stories, pray, serve, and grow deeper into a life of faith.

Here are some of the small groups that are happening this fall. All are open to newcomers. We encourage you to ask the church office (617-522-0600, info@hopeboston.org, or use this form) for contact information for any group that might interest you. Some groups also list their activities in the church calendar.

Book Group: Book discussions are held monthly in members' homes, sometimes over a meal. Upcoming dates and books are listed in the church calendar.

Economic Discipleship: A 12-week study group on economic discipleship as a practice of faith, following the "Lazarus at the Gate" curriculum.

Fair Trade Team: Help make Hope Church a fair trade church and encourage other local organizations to make the switch.

Hope Church Singers: Our pick-up choir meets right before church to learn a piece to sing during worship. Just come at 5 p.m., this Sunday or any Sunday.

Knitting Group: This group meets every Thursday night for knitting, tea and cookies, and conversation. Whether you knit a little or a lot or want to learn, there's a place for you.

Meditation Prayer Group: This group gathers monthly in the church office for an hour of meditative prayer: listening to an ancient prayer chant, followed by a time of quiet, and then a time for petition prayer.

We're always open to creating new small groups. If you have an idea for a group, talk to Rev. Wendy or contact the office.
